How is PTSD Evaluated?

Generally, a diagnosis of PTSD is made symptoms last for more than one month, and typically begin within three months of the traumatic event. Only a trained professional can make the diagnosis, so it's important to contact PTSD Centers of America if you or those close to you think that you may have PTSD.  Severe post-traumatic stress disorder may lead to difficulties working or socializing. People with PTSD often also have depression, substance abuse problems, and/or other anxiety disorders.

If you are wondering whether or not you have the symptoms of PTSD, be assured that PTSD Centers of America can test you in complete privacy. Even if you have previously been evaluated and determined not to have PTSD, if you want a second opinion, PTSD Centers of America will evaluate you. Our evaluation typically consists of:

  • medical and psychiatric history,
  • physical exam,
  • review of medications,
  • Various pschiatric testing.
  • appropriate specialty studies including neuroimaging (CT or MRI of head).

Your test results can be kept confidential, or released to other healthcare professionals – its your choice. Even if you have been told that you do not have PTSD or brain injury, PTSD Centers of America can provide you with a second opinion, and potentially with documentation of your injury.
