PTSD is a chronic, disabling condition which may develop following a terrifying event. Persons with PTSD experience persistent frightening thoughts and memories of the ordeal. PTSD was first highlighted in war veterans, but may result from any number of traumatic incidents (domestic abuse, rape, assault, MVA) or even from witnessing a traumatic incident. The symptoms of PTSD may interfere with a person's ability to function at work, in society, in a relationship and in other ways. |
